Held, Together

Sometimes I walk into church
feeling like such a fake ~
dressed up
made up
masked up
projecting an image that I have it all
~together~
when I really feel like
scattered
shattered
fragments
held together
by coffee and hairspray.
But then the Word calls
and the Spirit falls
and people smile and sing ~
and my gaze is shifted
from self to Savior
and I realize I am held together
not by my own strength
but by the body of Christ:
His Word = His hope
His Spirit = His presence
His people = His comfort.
This is where we come ~
where the mask can melt
and kindness is felt
and the Word calls
and the Spirit falls
and we are lifted as we lift Him up ~
and he holds us
together.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some,
but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
