draw near | hold fast

draw near in the sunshine
when all that is golden glows
soak up the heat of truth
like the seedling in the dark below
stretching its green
toward the warmth
toward the sun
toward the giver of life
reach out for his words
dig them up and dig in
caressing each one
addressing each sin
pressing on to the goal
of Christ within
seek with your heart and you will find
draw from the bottomless well
drink deep, deeper still, until you fill
the cistern
the storehouse
the hold
draw near and consume
take up and eat
savor the sweetness
of hope
of grace
of truth
For winter will come.

hold fast in the cold
stand firm in the blast
of the wind that sweeps
your feet from beneath
with enemy taunts of
past regrets
present pain
future cares
it’s all the same
and enough
to turn your eyes away
hold fast and remember
the warmth of the sun
the light of the truth
the grace of a God
who reigns
hold fast to your confession
hold fast to your redeemer
hold fast and know
that the One who is faithful
will do it
he is near
and you are held
fast.
Since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:21-23
