First Light

Updated: Jun 18, 2024

Down the steps to the kitchen with coffee on my mind,

the first light of new mercies peek through the trees.

Fingers of grace in pink and gold

announce the day the Lord has made.

I rub sleep from my eyes and regret from my thoughts,

remembering my wandering and bitterness.

Remembering brings remorse,

brings repentance,

yet your kindness brings redemption, Lord.

Like this new morning, rays of sunshine now broad and bright,

Your grace is fresh and alive

and sufficient for today.
