Where Would I Be Without You?

an empty chair and a table with a coffee mug and journal on it, all in the middle of a wheat field

Jesus—

Where would I be without you?

Without your initiation of love,

your invitation to grace?

Where would I stand

if you were not my rock?

Where would I look

if not toward your glory

in the moon and the stars

you have put into place?

Surely I would fall

into the pit

into the depths

into the mire.

Surely I would become

unmoored

unhinged

and unloved.

Yet you have extended your hand of mercy

from your heart of kindness

by your word of truth,

wrapped in your steadfast love

that endures forever.

You have unblinded my eyes to behold your beauty,

unburdened my heart so that I can live free;

unleashed my praise so that the world may know

where we would be

without you

and where we can be,

with you.
